29 and "I am Home"

Happy, happy March. ....Happy Birthday to me. My birthday was on the 2nd...and so was Jon Bon Jovi's. You learn these things growing up in NJ. It was a WONDERFUL birthday. ....but before i get to birthday details, I want to tell you about stuff happening in my music-land.

There's a new Free Download available. It's my piano version of Patty Griffin's "Blue Sky". That song is so special to me. I am still pondering why it wasn't #1 on the Billboard Charts for Patty. Nonetheless, it's #1 on the Kristin Cifelli charts. Billboard, shmillboard.

I've been writing new Kristin material, too. It feels really good to be writing and I have lots more ideas to organize. I've also been co-writing with my friend, Liz Stahler. When that's finished, maybe I'll put it up on the Free Downloads page, too.

In a couple of weeks, I'll be touring for a week with 2 of my close friends and songstresses, Sarah Brindell and Cariad Harmon. See the tour dates for details....and I'm currently setting up my southern tour for early June. So, east coasters, look out and check the tour page for daily updates to see when I'll be in your neighborhood. I'm hoping to travel to new cities this time, too...as well as old favorites (Charlotte!).

OK- back to birthday business....After eating at a gorgeously romantic restaurant and drinking a pitcher of sangria, we went to the Lizard Lounge where I was just mezmorized. Jennifer Kimball was playing with her dreamy band, Duke Levine, Kevin Barry and Billy Beard. I haven't been this moved by live music in years. As I sat there with tears rolling down my cheeks, I was thinking how lucky I am to have these incredible musicians share my city. Seriously folks, these 2 guitar players (Duke and Kevin) are probably (in my opinion...and many others, too, I'm sure) the best in the country. And they live in my city and run in my circles. I'm just in awe. After Jennifer played (I'm SOOOOO excited for her new album to come out after hearing what she put down that night) Boston Legend, Dennis Brennan played with the same dreamy band. Man- he's like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan and Tom Waits all rolled into one. It was rockin' and emotional all at the same time. It was an *incredible* night of music. And, it was a free show! I felt like I was cheating because this is music that I felt I should've bought a $50 ticket to see.

I received the new Keane CD for my birthday and listened to it 3 times through while at the gym this morning. (yes, I was there long enough for 3 times through) What a glittery and elegant record. I loved their first single, "Somewhere Only We Know" when it came out, and then I saw them on SNL and nearly fell off my chair. The album is just as gorgeous as both singles that are out. ...and, I also got Shawn Colvin's new DVD called "Polaroids". I've watched some of the interview of her so far and I'm like a kid playing a video game while I'm watching it. Nothing can distract me or make me blink, and drooling is always a fear and not far from happening. I've always said that Shawn is my "musical mommy" and getting to know how her brain and heart work through watching interviews and live performances is simply magical to me. I'm such a giddy teenager when it comes to how much I love Shawn.

So, as I enter my 29th year, I'm feeling great. Musically, I'm happy and excited and satisfied, and personally, I am comforted by my surroundings- my home in Boston. To quote myself from one of my new songs, "I Am Home".
