running around

Hey There loyal K-felli fans!

Thank you in advance for reading this- I know I've been a lackadaisy (i think i just made up a new flower) on updating this journal entry...but i will get better, i promise. I'm going to try to catch you up on what's been goin' on.

Last fall, I met up with my 2 beautiful songstress friends, Adrianne and Kyler England in Nashville. I was down there writing and demo-ing, and they were there performing with their "supergroup" called the Rescues.

Then in December, I played a show at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC and met up with my dear, dear friend, Cariad Harmon. Be on the lookout for her new album- her vocals are hauntingly beautiful- think Joni Mitchell meets Norah Jones. Yum.

In January, i hibernated and cooked a lot for myself and for friends. Here are the chicken pot pies and baked sweet potato fries that i made. potpies sweetpotato

Last week, I did a recital at Berklee College of Music (i teach voice lessons there for those of you who don't know). It was a recital of my "country" songs that I intend to pitch to different artists. I got to hand pick my band and singers and it was a trip to hear other people sing my songs!! I closed out the show with a few of my songs that I normally do myself.

....and now on to the last 2 big pieces of news!!

I've decided to run a marathon in May! Burlington, VT, to be exact. I've never even done a 5K before, although I'm quite active and a regular gym-go-er. I've never had the urge to run a marathon before, but my friend, Liz Stahler emailed back in the fall with a plea to a lot of her friends to run this with her. I ignored her email for a while....but it gnawed at my brain and I couldn't say no that easily without feeling a little like a whimp and a loser. So, i bit the bullet and decided to run it with her. When I think about it too much, I start to freak out a little...but then I remember that people run marathons all the time, right? :-)

Why am I doing this? Well, I've been thinking about it a lot (especially while i'm in the middle of running) and it's simply because i CAN. I'm physically able and so many are not. It's a good way to push myself and prove that I still do have some personal discipline. I've also thought that if I can run 26.2 miles, and go through all of the training, then the mountains of my own music career will seem more climbable.

My longest run to date has been 8 miles. I went out to run this morning on our sunny 50 degree sunday here in boston....and i was completely beat up by the head-wind. My socks were soaking wet from unavoidable melting ice-puddles, and on top of it, i am recovering from a head cold. I could only get 6.7 miles out of today, and it's all because of the damn head-wind. SO frustrating because i would've gone 2.5 more miles if it weren't for the wind...head cold and everything. It did make me extra happy, though, to be able to go out in the "warm" weather today with my red-sox cap on!

I may fill you in on my training from time to time over the next few months...wish me luck for an injury-free training! so far, so good.

....and lastly.....NEW ALBUM!!!!!!

Me and the guys (my band) are going into the studio at the end of March to begin the new album. I have never been so excited about a batch of songs as I am right now. My friend, Tom Dube is producing it and I can't wait for you all to hear it!!

So, I am beginning my new FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN. Part of the reason for the 5 year hiatus since my last album, So Long My Love, is because of money. ($$$$) Indie artists, such as myself, are responsible for every single penny that goes into the making of the album from studio costs (ca-ching, ca-ching), to photos, artwork, publicity, duplication, ca-ching, ca-ching....and the list goes on. Quite overwhelming.

Here's the truth: I love singing and writing songs, recording those songs and then performing them for people who appreciate it and love music. If I can get 500 people that love music, or just love helping those in the arts, to donate just $10 each, then I'll be in decent shape to get most of this album done. So, if you feel like supporting an indie singer/songwriter get her art out into the world, please donate! And, SPREAD THE WORD!!

I promise to keep you updated through the journey of making the album with clips, photos, demos, blogs, etc. Whether you can donate $10, or $25, or $50, $100, etc, etc, etc, any amount helps and I will be listing all of my 'donating angels' (if you want) on my website!

Click on the "DONATE" button below and use your debit or credit card! If you'd rather donate using a check, please email me at kristin@kristincifelli.com

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I will be in touch with you all very soon!
