The circus has come and gone....

This week I ran a 5K in Gloucester, MA with friends Andrew & Melissa. (26:07!! woohoo!) It was the kick-off to St. Peter's Festival, called Fisherman's Fiesta...and, growing up in NJ, where you can find an Italian festival celebrating any given saint's feast day pretty much every other weekend, I was very excited to smell the zeppole, and witness all of the other kitchy things that happen at Italian festivals.


Nothing could've prepared me for the Fisherman's Greasy pole contest, though. A bunch of drunken Italian fisherman in drag or other randomly crazy costumes, (such as a life-size wheaties box) climbed a 22-ish foot pole onto a deck about 1/4 mile out in the ocean, and had to walk across a heavily greased horizontal pole to grab the flag at the end....let's just say it was a good thing that they threw a few back before the contest because some of those slips and slides and face-slamming-onto-the-pole-before-falling-22-feet-into-the-ocean looked like they coulda hurt a little.


We then drove up a little further to my new favorite place in Massachusetts. Rockport, MA is so breathtakingly beautiful...I almost didn't want to tell all of you about it. :-) However, it's one of those things where I think I'm actually the last to know about how cool it is. Here's a shot of the moon peeking through some reeeeaaallly stinkin' old church.
